When I was pregnant, I decided along with my fiancé that we would raise our baby gender-neutral to the best of our ability. We waited as long as we could to keep the sex of the baby to ourselves and requested all different types of clothing and toys at our baby shower. We told everyone that our baby would be dressed in "boy" and "girl" and "unisex" clothing, given different colored and patterned burp cloths, and made a beautiful space and galaxy themed nursery, perfect for any and all babies.
When we found out that we were expecting a female, we discussed how we would raise her in a time when the current President had credible sexual assault accusations against him. We had to decide how to protect her but how to simultaneously allow her to be herself no matter what she identified as.
When I gave birth, I had a complex labor, a difficult delivery, and serious post-partum complications. I struggle with post-partum depression
